This day hike occured on Saturday, May 1, 2021. It was an interesting 4 mile loop. Participants were Mike Calabrese, Mary Gordon, Tom O'Brien and Jessica Lowry.
OK, I will first talk about the things that went well on this hike today. We
had "The Regular Crew" on this hike and had some nice comeraderie and
conversation. Next, the weather was fantastic. It was sunny and started out
in the upper 40's, then climbed to the mid 60's by hike's end. We met some
nice people on the trail today, both hikers and trail maintainers for the
group MORE, which is building the new trails within this park. The new trails
and bridges that this group was in the process of building were first rate.
And the hike ended around 10:30 AM, about the same time as our
05/05/2018 Trip Log of This Hike.
Now for the stuff that did not go so well on this trip. We got lost due to the
new trails that were added to this park. Without a map showing these new
trails we had no idea where
we were. At one point I could see traffic on I95. Then, within 2 minutes I
could see traffic from US1 through the trees. We ran into a group of trail
maintainers/builders from MORE at one point. They directed us to one of the
sections that we missed. But they added so many cross trails and meandering
trails that bicyclists like that we had no idea where we were. And we never
got to the southernmost loop in this park because we could not figure out
how to get there. I was very angry and frustrated towards the end of this
hike.
The "trail boss" for MORE told us where to find a hand drawn map of the new
trails in this park. I have published it here as a public service until the
official map comes out. I sincerely hope that they blaze these trails better
at some point because without the proper blazing, this new map will be
useless.
The participants on this hike said that they had a nice time. I lost my
cell phone earlier today but got it back. We had an estimator come to our
house to give us an estimate for fixing the tree that crashed into our deck
last week. While there were a lot of issues today, we did manage to get
out into the woods, observe nature and hopefully burn off a few calories. So
it was a good day after all.
